Factor reports that Russia-born, US-based businessman Konstantin Sokolov has been appointed director of the TRIPP+ development foundation. His appointment has sparked debate in Armenian media, with some suggesting that Sokolov might represent Russian interests during the implementation of the TRIPP project in southern Armenia.

Sokolov was born in 1975 in Saint Petersburg, where he received an education in mathematics and computer science. He moved to the US in 1997, where he built his business career. The businessman holds an Executive MBA from the University of Chicago and made a major donation to the institution in 2025.

He is the founder and head of the investment firm IJS Investments. Sokolov has also gained recognition for his financial support of Donald Trump's initiatives. His name does not appear on any American or European sanctions lists.

Sokolov has active business interests in Armenia. He is a 20 percent shareholder in Viva Armenia. According to Azatutyun, he is also in the process of acquiring a 49.95 percent stake in the Teghout company.

The Guardian reported that the TRIPP+ foundation, led by Sokolov, will invest approximately $200 million in the Middle Corridor project. This project aims to bypass Russia and Iran. According to a former USAID employee, Sokolov's personal interests are independent of these investments.

Sokolov's activities highlight his American economic ties. Expert analysis suggests there are no grounds to link him to the Russian side. The businessman has more economic interests in Armenia than in Russia.
