The jersey of legendary Brazilian footballer Pele has been sold for $4.88 million, 168.am reports. The item in question is the jersey he wore during the 1958 World Cup final. It was sold at a Sotheby’s auction.
Years ago, Pele gifted the jersey to his teammate Didi. Later, it was housed in Brazil's sports museum. Subsequently, the jersey was purchased by a private collector.
The auction record for sports apparel is still held by Maradona. In 2022, Diego Maradona's 1986 World Cup jersey was sold for $9.28 million. It remains the most expensive jersey in history.
