The US-based Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention has announced its support for an initiative led by Veronika Zonabend, wife of Ruben Vardanyan. Zonabend is calling for the formation of a humanitarian delegation of women to visit Armenians held in Baku’s prisons.
The Institute has urged leaders of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the European Union, and allied nations to leverage their diplomatic influence to guarantee the safety of the women traveling to Baku. This request aims to ensure the secure conduct of the humanitarian visit.
Simultaneously, the organization has appealed to international human rights advocates, politicians, and civil society groups to join this initiative in support of the families of Armenian prisoners. The goal is to create practical opportunities for families to visit their relatives held in Baku.
This initiative is significant as it shifts the issue from a purely diplomatic plane to the realm of direct humanitarian action. The task is clear: to enable families to see their loved ones under international guarantees.
