The results of the admissions process for bachelor’s and continuous and integrated educational programs at Armenia's public and private higher education institutions have been finalized. In the additional round, 1,073 more applicants were admitted, which, combined with the 9,885 students from the main competition, brings the total number of freshmen to 10,958. Those starting their studies this year account for approximately 69 percent of the total number of registered applicants.
The overwhelming majority of those admitted, 96.3 percent, will continue their studies at public universities, while the remainder will attend private institutions. In total, 86.15 percent of the 12,720 spots allocated to universities were filled this year. It is important to note that over the last five years, the number of students admitted to full-time programs has shown steady growth, increasing by approximately 13 percent compared to 2021.
The state continues to incentivize priority professions, particularly in science and mathematics, which have been allocated more than 60 percent of state-funded spots. Yerevan State University, the Armenian State University of Economics, and the National Polytechnic University of Armenia remain the most popular choices among applicants, with medical, architectural, and economics specialties leading in the number of applications. In the additional round, the field that admitted the most applicants was the economics department at the Polytechnic University.
These university admission figures indicate that interest among applicants in the educational system remains strong, despite fluctuations in the number of students. What is noteworthy is not only the total number of admitted students but also the trend of the state attempting to concentrate resources on the STEM sector.
Now, the primary question remains the effectiveness of students entering the labor market upon graduation. Although the admission competition was quite active, the remaining vacant spots indicate that there is still a certain mismatch between professional supply and demand.
