Operatives from the Yerevan City Department of the Criminal Police, under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, acting on operational intelligence, have uncovered a group of individuals who were selling narcotics through Telegram channels under their control.
Following prolonged and meticulous operational-investigative work, police officers succeeded in identifying, detaining, and bringing in one of these individuals to the department.
A criminal case has been initiated in the Arabkir Investigative Department in connection with the incident. During a search of one of the detainees' homes, 2 kilograms and 610 grams of methamphetamine were seized, which is considered a large quantity of drugs.
Searches were also conducted in the apartments of other individuals connected to the drug dealers, where methamphetamine, approximately 8 million 188 thousand drams, 4,500 US dollars, as well as cannabis plants and other items were confiscated.
As a result of ongoing measures, a total of 7 people have been arrested, and the preliminary investigation is still underway as law enforcement officials determine all the details of this criminal network's activities.
This is another major operation in the fight against drugs, which shows that the illegal market is actively using digital platforms, particularly closed messaging channels. The fact that several types of narcotic plants and finished substances, as well as significant sums of money, were seized at once points to the serious scale of this group.
At the same time, a question arises as to whether the 7 detained individuals constitute the entire chain or just a separate link, whose connections and backers still need to be uncovered. The results of the investigation will show how systematic this network was, and whether similar channels are operating in the city that have not yet been identified.
