August 2026 is showing strong potential to set a new global temperature record. Levon Azizyan, Director of the Center for Hydrometeorology and Monitoring SNCO, reported that the current month could become the hottest August in recorded meteorological history.

According to data from Japan's JRA-3Q reanalysis, the Earth's average global air temperature reached +17.03 °C during the first 11 days of the month. This marks the highest figure ever recorded worldwide for this period. The metric already surpasses the corresponding level of August 2024, which had previously been considered the hottest August on record.

This new record in global temperature directly evidences the acceleration of climate change. When even the record figures of 2024 are exceeded, it is no longer a random fluctuation, but a sustained trend.

Such an increase in average global temperatures could lead to more frequent extreme weather events around the world in the near future, including intensified regional heatwaves and worsening dryness.
