The Anti-Corruption Committee has completed the preliminary investigation of the criminal proceedings initiated against the head of the Department of History of Armenia at the YSU Faculty of History. Edik Minasyan, who had held the position since September 3, 2023, is accused of abuse of office and receiving bribes.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the lecturer, taking advantage of his influence over the student admissions committee, demanded $5,000 from a relative of an applicant in exchange for assisting with their admission to the educational institution. Following negotiations, the bribe amount was reduced to $4,000.

At present, house arrest has been chosen as a preventive measure against the defendant. The criminal case has been sent to the Anti-Corruption Court of the Republic of Armenia for trial.

Uncovering manifestations of corruption in the educational system always triggers a strong public reaction, especially when it concerns the country's leading university. Using influence in the student admission process undermines fair competition and diminishes trust in the academic environment.

This case demonstrates that the law enforcement system remains consistent, even when dealing with high-ranking officials. Now the ball is in the court's field, which must determine the defendant's fate, taking into account all the presented factual data.
