A criminal case has been opened over the disappearance of Nasimi Rasim oglu Musayev, a conscript serving at one of the military units in Azerbaijan’s Lachin district. Musayev was not found at his place of service on September 26, and search operations were carried out to determine his whereabouts.

As a result of an inspection conducted by Azerbaijan’s Military Prosecutor’s Office, reasonable suspicion arose that the serviceman had left the military unit without authorization. Based on the collected materials, a criminal case was opened by the Investigative Department of the Military Prosecutor’s Office, and the investigation is ongoing.

According to data from relevant Azerbaijani state agencies, search efforts established that Musayev is in Armenia and has been detained by the relevant Armenian authorities. Contacts between the relevant agencies of the two sides are continuing to clarify the circumstances of his whereabouts, detention and the other details of what happened.

Earlier, Armenia’s National Security Service reported that on October 1, an Armenian citizen sustained a gunshot wound in the settlement of Shaki in Syunik, and it was established at the scene that the shooter was an Azerbaijani serviceman. He was detained, and criminal proceedings were initiated by the Investigative Committee in connection with the incident.

The information published about the incident shows that the case now involves two separate but interconnected legal proceedings. In Azerbaijan, the circumstances of the serviceman’s unauthorized departure from his military unit are being investigated, while in Armenia, criminal proceedings have already been initiated in connection with his detention.

At the same time, a number of circumstances surrounding his appearance and detention in Armenia are still being clarified. Therefore, at this stage, the main information continues to come from the actions of the relevant agencies on both sides, while the outcome of the investigations will be crucial for further developments.
