The US may have been wrong to eliminate Iran’s leadership because Washington now does not understand who it is dealing with. US President Donald Trump made the statement during a meeting with Republican supporters.
“Maybe we went too far when it came to the leadership, because now we don’t even understand who we’re dealing with, for God’s sake,” Trump said.
According to him, no one currently wants to take the position of Iran’s leader.
Trump’s statement suggests that questions have also arisen in Washington about the consequences of actions against Iran’s leadership. Eliminating the leadership does not in itself mean that it will be easy to determine who will take power and what position the new leadership will adopt.
Judging by Trump’s remarks, the challenge now concerns not only the course of relations with Iran but also whom the US and other countries can negotiate with. However, his statement does not clarify exactly what situation has developed within Iran’s power structure or who might seek to become the country’s leader. Answers to these questions are important for understanding how events in the region may unfold.
