Lexus is creating an electric version of its legendary LFA supercar. The company aims to preserve the vehicle's emotional character, as reported by Autocar. The new prototype was showcased at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It will serve as the electric equivalent of the Toyota GR GT supercar, featuring a lightweight aluminum structure.
The new LFA will be the first mass-produced Lexus to feature a solid-state battery. This technology increases energy density and enhances the vehicle's capabilities. Designers are adhering to principles of minimalism and functionality, aiming to create a technically perfect automobile.
Lexus is striving to change the minds of supercar enthusiasts, many of whom consider electric vehicles artificial due to attempts to replicate engine sounds. The company does not intend to copy old sounds; instead, they plan to create a new and unique acoustic signature.
Engineers are emphasizing the advantages of electric motors, such as rapid throttle response and smooth handling. Lexus recognizes that electric vehicles may lose certain tactile sensations, which is why they are seeking new ways to foster interaction between the car and the driver.
The production model is set to be released next year. Lexus hopes to prove one important point: an electric sports car can be both fast and emotionally engaging.
