France experienced anomalous heatwaves from June 22 to 28. During this period, the country saw a 30 percent increase in the mortality rate. The situation was even more severe in the Paris region, where the figure reached 62 percent. This was reported by Le Figaro, citing data from the health agency.

French Health Minister Stéphanie Rist stated that approximately 2,025 additional deaths were recorded during the week in question. Experts note that this number is likely higher in reality. This heatwave was unprecedented, as the country recorded the three hottest days in its history.

The June heatwave was more intense than that of 2003, which claimed 15,000 lives. At that time, most of the victims were elderly. Authorities state that the consequences will be milder this time. They have established a network of special centers to protect vulnerable groups.

The minister dismissed opposition claims that the death toll could reach 10,000. The Green Party has accused the government of inaction and is threatening a vote of no confidence.
