168.am — The Court of First Instance of the Republic of Armenia today extended the detention of Andranik Tevanyan, leader of the Mother Armenia Party, by two months, meaning he will remain in custody. Earlier, Tevanyan issued a statement from the detention facility demanding an open court hearing in his case, as he is convinced that the public must know what he is being accused of and that the reality must be shown to society.

Tevanyan was arrested in May of this year on serious charges of espionage and treason. On May 21, the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia reported that citizen A.T., while serving as a member of parliament, was allegedly recruited by foreign special services in 2024 and engaged in agent activities.

According to the investigation's version, he illegally obtained detailed information from a closed parliamentary discussion held in April 2024, subsequently translated the materials into Russian, and transferred data containing state secrets. As asserted by the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia, he received a bribe of $622,000 for this purpose, which led to the initiation of a criminal case.

Tevanyan himself has categorically denied all charges, calling them absurd and politically motivated. He insists that the case filed against him does not correspond to reality. Following the court's decision, his detention continues.
