Russian drone strikes Kharkiv-bound train, killing one and injuring four

A Russian unmanned aerial vehicle struck a passenger train on the Lozova–Kharkiv route, killing one person and injuring four others, according to Ukraine's Minister of Restoration, Infrastructure and Transport, Mykola Kalashnyk.

The same electric train came under attack for the second time today, with the second strike occurring while emergency responders were already on site, compounding the danger.

Separately, in Odesa region, a jet-type Shahed drone hit the locomotive of another passenger train, though that train was stopped in time. Railway staff evacuated 593 passengers, including 15 children, and no casualties were reported in that incident.

The episode underscores that attacks on passenger transport are ongoing, and what is particularly alarming is that the same train was hit twice, including during rescue operations. This means that danger does not dissipate after the first warning, and people may remain in harm's way whether they are on board or already trying to help.

It is important to recognise that under these conditions, the railway becomes not only a route for evacuation but also a line of targeting, raising the question of whether sufficient measures are being taken to ensure the safety of passengers and rescuers, especially on routes passing through densely populated areas.
