IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi has warned that the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant could be left without electricity in about ten days. This will occur if external power restoration fails or additional diesel fuel supplies are not secured, posing a serious threat to the facility's safety.
In the current situation, the organization is working to establish another local ceasefire zone. If this initiative succeeds, it will mark the seventh such zone mediated by the IAEA since late 2025.
The power supply issue at the nuclear plant is not merely a technical matter; it directly impacts regional nuclear safety. The absence of external power and limited diesel fuel reserves highlight how vulnerable the situation remains within the military conflict zone.
While IAEA-mediated attempts to create ceasefire zones offer a temporary solution, a final resolution to the issue depends on a political agreement between the parties.
