A 26-year-old woman who was hospitalized unconscious after drowning in a Reebok swimming pool died on September 24.

On August 4, 2026, a criminal proceeding was initiated after a report was received about a person drowning in the swimming pool, on suspicion of providing services or carrying out work that did not meet safety requirements.

According to Kim Avdalyan, spokesperson for the Investigative Committee, the victim was in a medical center in an unconscious state but died on September 24. A forensic medical examination of the body has been ordered in connection with the incident.

Following the victim’s death, changes were made to the criminal proceeding, including a change in the legal assessment of the alleged offense.

The case is now being investigated under Point 2 of Part 2 of Article 412 of the Criminal Code, which concerns the provision of services that do not meet safety requirements and which, through negligence, resulted in a person’s death.

The change in the legal assessment of the case is related not to a new incident, but to the victim’s death, which occurred about one and a half months after the drowning. This circumstance changed the legal formulation of the alleged act being investigated במסגרת the proceeding.

At this stage, an important part of the case remains the investigation of the circumstances of the death and compliance with safety requirements, while the ordered forensic medical examination is expected to provide additional information about the cause of death. The further legal assessment of the criminal proceeding will depend on the facts gathered during the investigation.
