Narek Karapetyan, head of the Strong Armenia parliamentary faction, discussed with Petra Gyori, head of the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines and HealthCare (EDQM), a plan to reduce medicine prices in Armenia and the possibility of bringing them down to the level seen in Georgia.
The sides described the discussion as productive. According to Karapetyan, a new solution in this area will be presented in the near future, which, he said, could significantly reduce citizens’ spending on medicines.
He noted that under the planned solution, every citizen of Armenia could save hundreds of thousands of drams annually.
The main criterion for the proposed change is its practical impact on citizens. If it leads to a significant reduction in medicine prices, the effect will be especially noticeable for people who regularly purchase medicines and consistently spend part of their income on these expenses.
At the same time, the information made public at this stage is still only a general description: it is not yet known what mechanism is planned to reach the stated price level or how the potential annual savings of hundreds of thousands of drams were calculated. The details of the solution to be presented later will answer precisely these questions.
