OpenAI has made its new family of GPT-5.6 language models available. The series includes three versions: Sol, Terra, and Luna. Developers have designed them for business, programming, and scientific research.
The new models are more efficient and cost-effective than their predecessors. According to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, the Sol version consumes fewer resources when writing code. These models are also powerful in the field of cybersecurity, helping to identify threats and verify code security. Prior to release, the models underwent testing by US authorities.
The company also introduced the ChatGPT Work service. It is intended for corporate users and is available on computers and mobile devices. The tool simplifies the preparation of documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. In programming tests, Sol outperforms competitors in both quality and price.
OpenAI has decided to shut down the experimental Atlas browser, which was released in 2025. Instead, the company is launching a ChatGPT extension for Google Chrome. It allows users to analyze website content, answer questions, and generate summaries of materials.
The ChatGPT desktop application has also received new features. It can now interact with websites, upload files, and perform actions on pages without leaving the application. Certain operations will be carried out via a cloud browser running on OpenAI's servers. It should be noted that ChatGPT is already capable of speaking and listening simultaneously.
