Spanish meteorologists have issued a warning regarding a sharp rise in temperatures, Lurer reports. In the near future, thermometers in some parts of the country could reach 50°C.
Agency representative Jose Angel Nunez stated that such extreme heat is physically possible. Experts have noted that climate change is increasing the likelihood of record-breaking temperatures. Forecasting models frequently indicate such high readings in the Guadalquivir River valley.
Nunez noted that the exact timing remains unknown. However, Spain is already recording record heat levels. The first six months of 2026 have been the hottest in the last 65 years. The average temperature in June was 3.2 degrees above normal.
The country's current temperature record was set in August 2021, when the town of La Rambla recorded 47.6°C. Experts add that as the climate warms, new records are becoming inevitable.
