Expired and Unauthorized Products Found at Agora Stores

On August 24, the Yerevan Municipality's Public Order Protection Service conducted inspections at the capital's Agora retail outlets, during which 20 cases of administrative violations were recorded, mainly concerning products with expired shelf life, as well as goods being sold without proper documentation.

According to a statement released by the municipality, the highest number of violations were found at food and hygiene product sales points, where both expired goods and items without Armenian labeling or necessary quality-certifying documents were discovered.

Inspectors also paid attention to the sanitary conditions and storage standards at the stores; in some cases, conditions not meeting certain standards were recorded, which could pose a risk to consumers' health.

The municipality said that inspections will continue, and oversight in this direction will not ease in the coming days, as the goal is to increase discipline in the trade sector and protect consumer rights.

This is not the first time expired products have been found at stores of the well-known chain, but what is noteworthy is that the inspection was carried out in late summer, when violations of shelf life during hot weather are doubly dangerous.

The municipality promises ongoing oversight, but a question arises: whether these inspections will be regular or a response to specific complaints — an answer is still lacking. For now, the fact of 20 violations is known, but how much of the product range in this chain is actually safe could only become clear with regular and independent monitoring, which is precisely the key issue; without it, such inspections are more declarative than problem-solving.
