Musk Again Warns AI Could Be More Dangerous Than Nuclear Weapons

American businessman Elon Musk has recalled that he warned 12 years ago that artificial intelligence could be more dangerous than nuclear weapons. This comes amid discussions on slowing the development of artificial intelligence.

On Saturday, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei called for slowing the development of more powerful artificial intelligence models out of safety considerations. Musk later expressed agreement with his proposal to slow AI development.

"Twelve years ago," Musk replied to his 2014 post in which he had stated that artificial intelligence is "potentially more dangerous than nuclear weapons."

Discussions around artificial intelligence have long moved beyond purely technological circles, and Musk's latest comment is yet another clear proof of that. He was among the first years ago to compare the danger of AI to nuclear weapons, and that comparison has not faded over time but gained new momentum.

In this context, what is noteworthy is not so much Musk's statement as the fact that such a call was made by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, whom Musk unequivocally supported. This suggests that the concern extends not only among political or public figures but also among the heads of the very organizations creating these models. However, it is not yet known in what specific form such a slowdown could be implemented in practice, and how prepared the technology companies competing with each other are for it.
