More than 10 million pilgrims participated in farewell ceremonies for Iran's deceased supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, held in Iraq the previous day. These figures were provided by the Supreme Committee for Organizing Mourning Events, TASS reports.
"Preliminary statistical data indicates that over 10 million mourners participated in funeral processions and religious rituals in the Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala," the committee's special statement, cited by the INA agency, said.
The Supreme Committee expressed profound gratitude to all official institutions, shrines, security forces, armed forces, including the Shia militias (Al-Hashd al-Shaabi), thousands of volunteers, and the entire people of Iraq for their support and assistance in the successful conduct of mourning events within Iraqi territory.
