Israel Halts Vote on Armenian Genocide Recognition

The Israeli parliament, the Knesset, has postponed the vote on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. This was reported by the Jerusalem News Syndicate, citing an Israeli official.

On June 28, the Israeli government had approved a resolution to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide. The matter was subsequently set to be discussed in parliament.

The authorities had reached this decision amid a complex diplomatic situation. Tensions in the region had escalated due to ceasefire violations involving Iran and attacks in the Persian Gulf.

This decision followed a NATO summit held in Turkey. At the time, Ankara had demanded that U.S. President Donald Trump ensure the delivery of F-35 fighter jets.

The Knesset is heading into its summer recess at the end of this week. The parliament will not hold sessions until the elections scheduled for October 27.
