On August 25, RA Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan hosted the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran to Armenia, Mehdi Sobhani (Khalil Shirgholami). The meeting was also attended by Deputy Minister Anushik Avetyan.
During the meeting, the parties discussed issues related to the development of Armenian-Iranian economic cooperation, the expansion of trade turnover and investments, as well as the development of infrastructure and business ties.
Papoyan noted that the high-level political dialogue between Armenia and Iran should be translated into more tangible economic results by expanding the presence of Armenian products in the Iranian market and effectively utilizing the opportunities provided by the EAEU-Iran Free Trade Agreement.
Prospects for energy and logistics cooperation were also addressed, along with possibilities for long-term supplies of diesel fuel and liquefied gas.
Papoyan proposed considering the expansion of cooperation in several directions: increasing trade and Armenian exports, joint production and investments, energy and logistics cooperation, as well as the continuous improvement of border procedures.
The agenda of this meeting demonstrates that discussions on economic cooperation are not limited to increasing trade turnover alone. The areas under consideration also include the entry of Armenian products into the Iranian market, joint production and investments, energy, logistics, and border procedures. Progress in each of these areas requires practical steps.
Particularly noteworthy is the emphasis on utilizing the opportunities of the EAEU-Iran Free Trade Agreement, as it is linked to the specific goal of expanding Armenian exports. At the same time, the discussion on long-term supply opportunities for diesel fuel and liquefied gas indicates that practical energy issues are also included in the economic agenda.
