Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Kristine Ghalechyan has received a delegation led by Khalil Shirgholami, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran to Armenia.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the progress and future steps of joint projects being implemented in the infrastructure sector. The Deputy Minister emphasized the importance of carrying out such projects between the two countries.
The interlocutors made specific reference to the initiative to construct a second bridge over the Araks River on the Armenia-Iran state border. Additionally, other matters of mutual interest were discussed during the meeting.
The project to construct a second bridge over the Araks River holds strategic significance for the expansion of transport links between Armenia and Iran. Currently, existing infrastructure often operates under heavy loads, which slows down the growth of cargo transport volumes.
This initiative will not only ease traffic flows at the border checkpoint but will also boost Armenia's transit potential in the region. Further developments will depend on how quickly the parties transition from the design phase to funding and actual construction.
