The body of a 61-year-old tourist has been discovered in the Barguzinsky District of Buryatia, who, according to preliminary reports, fell victim to a bear attack. Search and rescue operations involving rescuers, volunteers, and law enforcement lasted several days and concluded with the tragic discovery in the forest area.
The man had set out on a hike on September 6 to traverse the "Trial Path" and reach the Svyatoy Nos plateau. He had planned to return the same evening, but ceased contact after departing that morning. Since the tourist did not answer phone calls, an alert was raised immediately. The body has now been handed over to law enforcement authorities for further proceedings.
The issue of tourist safety in the wilderness is once again a subject of discussion as such tragedies occur on routes that seem safe. This incident serves as another reminder that forest hikes, even for experienced individuals, require special precautions against bears and strict consideration of weather conditions.
The question arises as to whether safety precautions are sufficiently implemented on such routes. While the investigation works to establish the details, it is important to understand how to minimize the likelihood of such encounters in similar areas.
