COP17 opens new diplomatic channels for Armenia with previously unconnected countries

Thanks to COP17, Armenia has established relations with countries with which no ties existed before. The Foreign Ministry reported this on October 14.

According to the same source, about 15,000 participants are expected at COP17 in Yerevan, but their number could be higher.

The Foreign Ministry is still unaware whether Turkish and Azerbaijani delegations will arrive in Yerevan to participate in COP17. It was also hinted that the issue of prisoners is not a topic on COP17's agenda, and discussions on it may only take place during bilateral meetings.

For the acquisition of organizational services for COP17, 18.5 billion drams have been allocated in Armenia's state budget.

Among other news of the day are the currency exchange rates for October 14. Sarik Minasyan spoke on the topic of transferring Shirak conscripts to Karabakh, noting that at that time parents were plunged into mourning.

Regarding the local political situation in Gyumri, it was discussed that the defeat in the elections was not personal but against four forces, and a governance crisis could arise in Gyumri.

Separate publications addressed Pashinyan's possible intention to consign the Genocide to oblivion, the fact that the Artsakh resident who displayed rude behavior toward a 24News journalist owes 15 million drams to the fund, the presence of 4 Azerbaijani cars in the yard on September 27, from which they were saying "не бойтесь," we won't do anything to you, as well as Khachatur Sukiasyan's comparison with Nikol Pashinyan.

The situation surrounding COP17 shows that major international events can become not only diplomatic but also practical opportunities to establish ties with countries with which everyday contacts are absent. This is also a serious organizational challenge—the 18.5 billion dram program must justify expectations, especially when the number of participants could exceed the initial 15,000.

It is noteworthy that the question of participation by Turkish and Azerbaijani delegations remains open. If they arrive, it will become a separate political event regardless of COP17's actual agenda. The consideration of the prisoners' issue as a separate bilateral topic also suggests that for Yerevan this event goes beyond a purely ecological dimension.

In the coming weeks, it will become clear whether the new connections obtained will turn into stable cooperation or remain merely protocol contacts.
