Armenian ambassador meets Spanish Senate first vice-president

Armenia's Ambassador to Spain Sos Avetisyan has met with Javier Maroto, the First Vice-President of the Spanish Senate.

During the conversation, the parties touched upon the high level of interparliamentary relations between Armenia and Spain, and discussed prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation.

The meeting is evidence that parliamentary ties between the two countries continue to develop, and that official Madrid is showing interest in expanding political dialogue with Yerevan.

Interparliamentary diplomacy often remains in the shadows, even though it is precisely on such platforms that the ties are formed which later influence bilateral decisions. The meeting with the First Vice-President of the Spanish Senate means that the dialogue between Yerevan and Madrid is not limited to the executive level alone.

Spain is one of Armenia's influential partners in the European Union, and the strengthening of parliamentary ties could become a serious foundation for economic and cultural projects in the coming years. At the same time, the effectiveness of such meetings is difficult to measure by statements alone; what matters are the practical steps that will follow.

It is noteworthy that the meeting took place at the Senate itself, rather than at the embassy or on a neutral platform; this is often a sign that the Spanish side is ready for deeper institutional cooperation. What concrete arrangements will emerge from this dialogue will be shown by the near future.
