India Ships 1,000 Guided Rockets to Armenia for Pinaka Systems

India has begun the delivery process for Pinaka multiple launch rocket systems destined for Armenia, and the project has already entered its practical phase: the first batch of guided rockets has been dispatched from the facilities of manufacturer Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited.

The first batch comprises 1,000 guided rockets. The contract signed with Armenia also provides for the supply of the Pinaka multiple launch rocket systems themselves and corresponding ammunition.

The total value of the deal stands at approximately 20 billion Indian rupees, or $210 million.

From a defense procurement standpoint, this is not Armenia's first serious step in the Indian market, but the talk of 1,000 guided rockets shows that cooperation has moved from paper to a practical phase. It is also significant that the contract covers not only ammunition but the systems themselves — meaning this is not a one-off supply but a long-term technical relationship requiring appropriate infrastructure and training.

The $210 million is no small sum, especially when it comes to working with a new supplier. In recent years, India has been actively trying to break into the global arms market, and Armenia has become one of the important partners along that path. The question that arises here is how successfully the delivery schedule will be maintained, and whether the shipment of the first batch will become a pattern or merely an initial step.

It is not yet known when the parties plan to complete the fulfillment of the entire contract, or whether additional supplies are envisaged in the coming years. It is precisely these details that will show whether the deal remains a one-off episode or becomes a component of Armenia's defense system.
