Strategy to Reshape Regional Geopolitical Map: ‘Western Azerbaijan’

2 Min Read

'Western Azerbaijan' has become a cornerstone of the Turkish-Azerbaijani alliance's revisionist doctrine. This concept attempts not only to redraw the region's map but also to undermine Armenian statehood. It is a political project developed at the state level, aiming to dismantle the ideological foundations of Armenian statehood, render its sovereignty meaningless, and question the legitimacy of the Armenian people's state-organized existence in their homeland.

The concept of 'Western Azerbaijan' is part of a strategy to reshape the geopolitical map, developed within the framework of close Turkish-Azerbaijani strategic cooperation. According to this strategy, Armenia obstructs the formation of a unified geostrategic area extending from the shores of the Bosphorus to Central Asia. Therefore, pressures against Armenia stem from deep and long-term geopolitical calculations, in which the weakening of Armenian statehood's resilience is considered a strategic necessity.

The idea of 'Western Azerbaijan' acquires particular strategic significance. If previously the core of anti-Armenian policy was the issue of Artsakh, today the same function is transferred to the 'Western Azerbaijan' agenda. Within its logic, Armenia is presented not as a sovereign state, but as a disputed historical-political territory for formulating new demands and creating tools for constant pressure. This poses an immediate threat to the security, sovereignty, and state viability of the Republic of Armenia.
