The number of confirmed deaths from Ebola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has approached 5,200, while the total number of cases in the country has exceeded 10,600.

According to the National Institute of Public Health, which operates under the DRC’s Ministry of Health, 10,668 confirmed Ebola cases have been recorded in the country since the outbreak began, including 5,198 deaths.

The case fatality rate stands at 48.7 percent. Ituri Province remains the epicenter of the outbreak, accounting for 70.2 percent of all reported cases.

Data on the spread of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo indicate that combating the disease remains a serious challenge. The 48.7 percent case fatality rate is particularly concerning, as it refers to confirmed cases rather than the full picture of the disease’s spread.

The concentration of cases in Ituri Province is another important factor. When most cases are reported in a single area, controlling the spread of infection there becomes one of the key challenges in combating the outbreak. However, the figures provided do not reveal how quickly the disease is spreading or whether the situation is improving.
