"Once we receive the case materials, we will talk then. I don't understand a thing." With these words, third Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, accompanied by his lawyer Amram Makinyan, exited the Anti-Corruption Committee building, responding to reporters' questions about which case he had been summoned for.

Earlier the same day, Sedrak Kocharyan, the son of second Armenian President Robert Kocharyan, was also escorted out of the Anti-Corruption Committee building by masked individuals.

According to a statement from the Armenian Prosecutor General's Office, on August 24, 2026, a prosecutor initiated public criminal prosecution against Robert Kocharyan for abuse of official powers (3 episodes), receiving bribes on an especially large scale (2 episodes), and money laundering on an especially large scale (4 episodes). It was also noted that criminal prosecution has been initiated against 9 other individuals, and that list includes the names of Serzh Sargsyan and Andranik Margaryan.

These developments indicate that high-ranking Armenian political figures and their family members are in the spotlight of the Anti-Corruption Committee, pointing to a systemic approach in investigating corruption cases.

According to the Prosecutor's Office statement, those involved in the case include both former presidents and their relatives, which brings a new phase to the legal proceedings accumulated over the years. In the coming weeks, the details of the charges and the evidence base are likely to become clearer, allowing for a better understanding of the true scope and impact of this case.
