Ford registers Mustang trademark and horse logo in Russia

2 Min Read

The American automaker Ford Motor Company has registered the Mustang trademark and the horse logo in Russia. The registration applications were filed from the US by Ford Motor Company itself, and they were registered under Class No. 12 of the International Classification of Goods and Services, which covers automobiles and their components.

This, however, does not mean that Ford is resuming its operations in Russia. In 2022, the American company halted work in the country due to the events in Ukraine.

Other details of the registration, including Ford's possible plans regarding the Russian market, have not yet been reported.

Registering a trademark in Russia does not yet signify a return to the market. Ford fully exited the country in 2022, and that decision was linked to the events in Ukraine, so any new step in this context should be viewed cautiously.

The registration may simply be legal protection aimed at not losing the brand and logo in the future, without any intention of immediately starting production. Such moves are often made by companies that have temporarily withdrawn from a market but do not want to completely sever ties.

Now the most interesting question: is this merely a paper step, or the first signal of some bigger plan? There is no answer yet, and that is precisely what makes developments worth watching closely.
