Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation to discuss international issues, according to Yuri Ushakov, aide to the Russian President.

Putin congratulated Trump and the American people on Independence Day. He emphasized Russia's role in the development of US statehood and expressed hope that constructive relations would benefit both countries and the international community.

Ushakov recalled that Trump had sent a congratulatory message to Putin on June 12 for Russia Day. In that message, Trump paid tribute to Russia's history, culture, and the resilience of the Russian people.

Putin briefed Trump on the situation in Ukraine, stating that Kyiv and its European patrons are prolonging and escalating the conflict, relying on false assumptions on the battlefield. Putin spoke about the liberation of Konstantinovka and the advance of Russian troops.

The US President reaffirmed his readiness to support a swift cessation of military operations in Ukraine. He noted the prospects for cooperation between Russia and the US after the conflict ends.

"This conversation allowed us to frankly discuss topical issues on the bilateral and international agenda," Ushakov said.

During his conversation with Trump, Putin reaffirmed his intention to provide practical assistance in stabilizing the situation in the Middle East. The Russian President also confirmed his invitation for Trump to visit Russia.
