Fraudsters have become active once again in their attempts to extort money from citizens, reports News.am. They call individuals while posing as mobile network operator employees. They use various pretexts, such as "5G network updates," "improving connection quality," or "technical adjustments." The Cybercrime Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs warns that these scammers convince citizens to download specific applications.
Such applications allow scammers to gain remote access to your phone. As a result, they easily access your banking apps and steal your funds. The Cybercrime Department notes that the number of victims continues to rise.
For your own safety, follow simple rules. Never download programs suggested by strangers. Do not disclose verification codes, passwords, or other personal data. If you receive a suspicious call, hang up immediately. Then, call your mobile operator's official service center.
Remember: operators will never ask you to download any software over the phone. Stay vigilant and do not trust suspicious offers.
