Azatutyun — Russia launched massive ballistic missile strikes on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, early this morning. The attack has resulted in at least 9 deaths, while the number of injured has reached 30, including 4 children. City authorities report that people remain trapped under the rubble of partially collapsed buildings, and rescue operations are ongoing.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has urged residents to seek immediate shelter as the city remains under ballistic attack. According to local residents, more than a dozen loud explosions were heard in various parts of the city. While the Russian Ministry of Defense claims that the strikes targeted only military-industrial and logistics facilities, the scale of the destruction suggests otherwise.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy detailed that the attack caused severe damage in 7 districts of Kyiv. A total of 18 residential buildings and a number of infrastructure facilities were damaged, including the building of the Lithuanian Embassy. According to the President, Russian forces launched 35 missiles toward Ukraine overnight, 27 of which were ballistic, and also deployed 185 strike drones. This attack occurs at a time when Ukraine is facing a critical shortage of capabilities to counter ballistic missiles.
