Criminal police officers have uncovered another case of illegal drug trafficking. Law enforcement officials stopped and arrested four men on Nazarbekyan Street in Yerevan; two of the suspects are residents of the capital, while the other two are from the Kotayk Province.
A Neta vehicle, driven by a 33-year-old Yerevan resident, was also with the detainees and has been impounded. A search of the vehicle revealed a package containing 335 grams of a substance resembling marijuana, while a personal search of one of the detainees led to the discovery of a smoking pipe and another package of drugs. The men confessed that they had acquired the drugs via the Telegram app with the intent to distribute them.
The preliminary investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement officers also conducted a search of an apartment belonging to one of the suspects on Halabyan Street in Yerevan. Inside, they found over 20 grams of a substance resembling marijuana, divided into 30 individual packets. A criminal investigation has been initiated at the Investigative Committee's Ajapnyak and Davtashen administrative district division to clarify all circumstances of the case.
The increasing frequency of such cases in the fight against drug trafficking indicates that technological platforms like Telegram have become primary tools for illegal transactions. The challenge for the law enforcement system lies not only in the seized substances but also in the rapid exposure of criminal networks.
It is noteworthy that the significant quantity of drugs found on the suspects and the method of packaging point to a planned distribution process rather than mere personal use. The course of the preliminary investigation will reveal the extent to which the arrested individuals were connected to wider networks and whether the actual suppliers of the drugs can be identified.
