Tropical warm air masses will enter Armenia from regions of Iraq on August 23-24, causing daytime temperatures across the country to rise by 5-6 degrees compared with August 21.
According to Gagik Surenenyan, deputy director of the Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center, the highest temperatures will be recorded on August 24. They will reach 32-33 degrees in mountainous regions and 36-37 degrees in foothill areas, while daytime temperatures in the Ararat Valley, Yerevan and the valleys of Syunik are forecast to reach 38-40 degrees.
The high heat will not last long. It will persist on August 23, 24 and 25, while from August 26 the tropical warm air mass will gradually recede and temperatures will begin to fall.
Dry weather is expected across the country on August 21-24. Short thunderstorms and rain are possible during the evening hours on August 25 and 26, particularly in northern regions.
Earlier, the Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center reported that the 5-6 degree rise in temperatures would also bring a high-level fire hazard.
The upcoming heat will be short-lived, but its intensity will be particularly noticeable in the Ararat Valley, Yerevan and the valleys of Syunik, where temperatures of up to 38-40 degrees are forecast for August 24. Therefore, the weather during these days should not be viewed simply as a routine temperature rise, as the center is also warning of a high-level fire hazard.
The decline in temperatures from August 26 shows that the hot period will not be prolonged. At the same time, the short-term rain expected during the evening hours of August 25-26, particularly in northern regions, could change the weather pattern. At this stage, the main focus remains the high temperatures expected on August 23-25.
