An emergency incident occurred in Kotayk Province: the driver of a Hyundai vehicle disobeyed a patrol officers' stop signal, after which gunfire was opened from the car toward the law enforcement officers.
As a result of the incident, two patrol officers were taken to a medical center with injuries. One of the officers has already been discharged after receiving the necessary medical care, and their lives are not in danger.
Thanks to joint operational-investigative work by various police departments, both the Hyundai vehicle and two individuals suspected of committing the crime were located in a short time. They are residents of Kotayk Province who, according to preliminary data, were under the influence at the time of the incident.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated regarding the incident. Law enforcement officers are taking the necessary measures to fully clarify all the circumstances of the incident, as well as to locate the firearm used as the weapon of crime.
This nighttime incident once again demonstrates how high the risk is in the daily work of the Patrol Service, especially when dealing with impaired drivers. The use of firearms against law enforcement officers is a serious signal from the perspective of road safety and the control of illegal arms trafficking.
Now, locating the firearm used as the weapon of crime and determining its origin becomes pivotal. The course of the criminal proceedings and the charges to be brought against the suspects will show how strict a legal evaluation will be given to an armed attack against officials performing their official duties.
