Scientists Estimate Total Number of Trees on Earth

1 Min Read

1in.am — Scientists have estimated the total number of trees on Earth, revealing that our planet is home to about 3 trillion trees, which averages to roughly 400 trees per person. This figure is nearly eight times higher than previous estimates, with the largest concentrations found in tropical forests (43%), as well as temperate forests in Russia, Canada, and Scandinavia.

However, what is particularly striking is that since the dawn of human civilization, the total number of trees has decreased by approximately 46%. Annual losses amount to about 15 billion trees, while forest regeneration occurs at a significantly slower pace. Scientists warn that the presence of 3 trillion trees should not create a false sense of security, as if current deforestation rates continue, the world's forest reserves could be rapidly depleted.
