Six Arrested Including Ex-President and Son in Criminal Scheme, Investigators Say

2 Min Read

Six people have been arrested as part of a criminal investigation, including the country's former president, his son, and several other individuals who, according to investigators, were involved in organized criminal schemes.

The former president has been charged with abuse of official authority and large-scale embezzlement, while his son is accused of aiding those actions and money laundering.

Investigative bodies have established that over several years, a financial system was created through which state funds were allocated to entities participating in the criminal schemes, with reports submitted using falsified documents in return.

The other arrestees held various positions in both the public and private sectors, and each had their own role in carrying out these schemes.

So far, lawyers for the former president and the other detainees have declined to comment, but it is known that they plan to appeal the arrest orders.

The Investigative Committee said the probe is ongoing and does not rule out that other individuals linked to these criminal schemes may also appear in the case.

This case is unprecedented not only because of the former president's status but also due to the scale of the financial schemes, which, according to the investigation, operated with impunity for years. The question arises as to how such large-scale abuses could have gone unnoticed for so long, and whether there are still people in the system today who will not be held accountable. Given that the investigative bodies acted quite swiftly in this case, it can be assumed that similar cases may be opened in the future, especially if any of the detainees cooperate with the inquiry. It is clear that this is a serious signal to all those who until now felt untouchable, but it is still difficult to say whether this case will have a chain reaction or will be limited to just these six individuals.
