In mid-August, at a specialized orphanage in Nor Kharberd, one of the caregivers allegedly brutally beat a child with disabilities, according to reports. The child cannot walk or speak.
It is reported that the caregiver struck the child after he fell to the floor, then delivered blows with a "poly stick" to various parts of his body, including his spine. The caregiver also called the child "worthless."
In an effort to obtain information about the incident, attempts were made to contact the orphanage director, the reception desk, and other staff members, but the calls went unanswered. At the same time, contact was established with administrative head Narek Kakoyan, who said he was aware of the incident and that the caregiver is a fellow villager of theirs.
When asked whether proceedings had been initiated and whether a preventive measure was in place, Kakoyan replied that the caregiver is under house arrest. He did not answer other questions, saying he would call later. Efforts to obtain comment from law enforcement are also ongoing.
What stands out in this case is not only the severe description of the violence against the child, but also the fact that this concerns a child in need of care who cannot walk or speak independently. In such a situation, ensuring the child's safety is especially important, since he cannot fully protect himself or tell what happened.
Another question is the institution's response after the incident.
