Starting at 23:52 on October 10, the Ministry of Internal Affairs' 112 operational management center received alerts that voices of an argument were heard in the area of Kanaker's 9th Street in Yerevan.
Police officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, arriving at the specified location, determined that, according to preliminary data, an argument had occurred among a group of individuals near one of the houses on Aghasu Street, which continued on Tbilisi Highway, during which firearms were also used.
Patrol officers serving on Tbilisi Highway noticed an armed man, whom they neutralized and transported to a medical center.
As a result of the incident, three individuals were transported to medical centers with gunshot wounds.
A criminal proceeding has been initiated regarding the incident, and necessary measures are being carried out to clarify all circumstances of the case.
This case shows that even late at night, the use of weapons in public places remains a serious problem, and the police response—from the alert to the neutralization of the armed individual—played a decisive role here. What matters is that the patrol officers arrived at the scene in time, otherwise the consequences could have been more severe.
Within the framework of the criminal proceeding, the true cause of the argument, the parties' relations, and how the firearm ended up in their hands will become clear in the near future. It is not yet known whether there is more than one detainee, and whether the condition of the injured is stable. It is precisely the answers to these questions that will determine whether this is an isolated incident or a signal of a broader security problem.
