Armenia’s Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan has published a video showcasing L-39 Skyfox jet aircraft manufactured by the Czech company Aero Vodochody Aerospace. According to the head of the defense department, these aircraft will soon join the country’s military arsenal.
"These wonders will soon soar in the skies of Armenia," the defense minister wrote on social media. The news has drawn widespread attention.
The minister's post and the footage indicate that the Armenian side has purchased the jets, although no other official details regarding the financial terms or other technical specifications of the deal have been disclosed yet.
A delegation led by Suren Papikyan is currently on an official visit to the Czech Republic. The familiarization with the military hardware took place within the framework of this visit.
This announcement by the Minister of Defense demonstrates that Yerevan is taking concrete steps toward diversifying the geography of its defense procurement and expanding ties with the European defense industry. The Czech L-39 Skyfox aircraft are modern combat-trainer systems capable of substantially transforming military pilot training standards and enhancing air force capabilities.
At the same time, key questions remain unanswered. The official report does not specify the number of aircraft purchased, the exact delivery timeline, or the contract value. Moving forward, the focus will be on when this equipment will actually arrive in Armenia and how it will be integrated into the armed forces' overall defense structure.
