Aravot — Edmon Marukyan, chairman of the Bright Armenia party, has stated that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan filed a lawsuit against him demanding a public apology, a retraction, and 6 million drams in compensation, yet the court—without even starting the case—has placed a seizure on his property and bank accounts.
Marukyan explained in a video what a preliminary injunction is, when it is typically applied, and why such a decision in a defamation and insult case is not only disproportionate but effectively a punitive measure. According to him, Pashinyan has for years insisted that there is a mafia operating within the judicial system and that he is fighting against it, but now he has turned to that very same court, which without examining the merits of the case has imposed restrictions on him.
“This is not just about 6 million drams or frozen accounts,” Marukyan wrote. “This is an attempt to restrict political speech, pressure and silence an opponent.” He stated that he will use all legal means and, if necessary, take the case to the European Court of Human Rights, continuing his political activities despite the pressure.
