Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a telephone conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. During the discussion, the leaders reflected on the first anniversary of the Peace Summit held in Washington on August 8, 2025. That meeting, which took place with the support of U.S. President Donald Trump, was pivotal in the process of establishing peace and initialing the agreement between the two countries. Both sides highly valued the role of the United States and President Trump personally in advancing the peace agenda.
According to the Armenian government, the leaders paid special attention to the economic progress recorded over the past year. They emphasized that the expansion of trade and economic ties between the two states is one of the practical outcomes of peace. Issues related to the import of Azerbaijani oil products into Armenia, as well as the implementation of transit freight shipments, were discussed. In addition, Pashinyan and Aliyev addressed the details of launching the TRIPP route. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continuing efforts aimed at strengthening stability, mutual connectivity, and economic cooperation in the region.
One year after the start of the Washington peace process, this telephone conversation demonstrates the viability of the agreements reached. The activation of economic ties, particularly the use of energy resources and transit routes, is effectively becoming one of the cornerstones of peace.
At this stage, it is crucial to monitor how successfully seamless and predictable operations can be ensured within the framework of the TRIPP route. This level of economic cooperation not only brings tangible benefits but also gradually reduces the security risks that have accompanied regional processes for decades.
