Officers from the Criminal Police Department's Anti-Drug Unit have uncovered a case of illicit drug trafficking, successfully preventing the distribution of a large quantity of prohibited substances. The police had received operational intelligence that two Yerevan residents, aged 39 and 36, were involved in the acquisition and sale of narcotics.
On August 2, as a result of a joint operation with police patrol officers, law enforcement officials located and apprehended the suspects, as well as the 33-year-old owner of the house, on Khaghagh Don Street. At the time of the arrest, one of the suspects attempted to dispose of the evidence by throwing a package onto the roof of the house. Police immediately secured the area, preventing the package from being lost.
During the subsequent investigation and search of the premises, a substance resembling methamphetamine weighing 318 grams was seized from the roof. Within the framework of the initiated criminal proceedings, the 39 and 36-year-old men have been remanded in custody. The preliminary investigation continues to establish all the circumstances of the case.
This case serves as yet another warning regarding the risks present in the capital concerning illicit drug trafficking. 318 grams of methamphetamine is a significant quantity; its appearance on the 'black market' could have seriously endangered public safety.
It is important to understand that while such operational successes temporarily break these chains, the methods of distributing illegal substances remain a persistent issue. Future developments will depend on the results of the preliminary investigation, specifically in identifying the source from whom the suspects acquired the large quantity of narcotics.
