US President Donald Trump believes that Iran's supreme leader is not dead, but severely injured. He spoke about this during an interview with conservative radio host Glenn Beck.
Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, assumed leadership of the country in February following the assassination of his father. Since then, he has not made a single public appearance, and no official information regarding his location or health status has been published. Trump noted that the new leader has very severe injuries on the left side of his body, including his arm and leg, but is nevertheless alive.
Earlier, rumors circulated that videos would soon be released showing Mojtaba Khamenei interacting with the public in the streets and holding meetings with commanders of the armed forces.
The uncertainty and conflicting reports surrounding Iran's top leadership demonstrate just how tense the situation in the region is. Official Tehran's silence only fosters the spread of such speculation, which could impact both domestic and foreign policy developments.
Notably, the release of such details at the level of the US president could also serve as a means of information pressure. Subsequent steps will show whether the Iranian side will be forced to prove its leader's activity through videos or other evidence.
