The nationalization process of the Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA) is nearing its resolution. The Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure will soon publish the relevant draft on the e-draft platform, which will be followed by public consultations before the document is submitted to the Government for review.
However, the Government's decision is not the final step. The process also includes an assessment phase for the company, which could take several months and will be crucial in determining the amount of compensation to be paid by the state. According to the plan, the state will first take full control of ENA, after which the valuation of assets will be carried out to determine the amount to be allocated to the owner.
In the final stage, the company will be registered in the state registry as 100 percent state-owned property. Currently, the main question concerns not only the timeline but also the financial burden the transaction will place on the state budget. The upcoming draft will provide clarity on the valuation at which this transfer is being executed.
The nationalization process of ENA signals significant upcoming changes in the energy sector. When dealing with such major infrastructure, the state's priority must be not only taking possession of the property but also ensuring the transparency of the valuation process.
It is important to understand how the compensation amount will be determined and whether it will be sufficiently justified to the public. This transaction, carried out with taxpayer funds, requires maximum accountability, as the efficiency of the energy sector directly impacts the quality of life for every citizen.
