Armenia's third president, Serzh Sargsyan, is currently at the building of the Anti-Corruption Committee, where he had been invited. However, upon entering the building, he was not yet aware of the specific charges. It has emerged that the Prosecutor's Office has also launched criminal prosecution against Sargsyan, and this had already been mentioned in the notice concerning Armenia's second president, Robert Kocharyan.

According to data published by the Prosecutor's Office, on August 24, 2026, public criminal prosecution was initiated against Kocharyan for abuse of official powers (three episodes), receiving bribes on an especially large scale (two episodes), and money laundering on an especially large scale (four episodes).

In total, criminal prosecution has been launched against nine individuals, including Kocharyan's son Sedrak Kocharyan, former Minister of Defense Serzh Sargsyan, former Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan, former Yerevan mayor Gagik Beglaryan, Samvel Mayrapetyan, a participant in Local Developers, as well as Aramais Orskanyan, the head of the construction company Aygedzor LLC, together with his wife and two daughters.

At the Anti-Corruption Committee, Serzh Sargsyan is also being interrogated, and it is not yet known on what specific issues he will be questioned in detail.

This development is likely one of the most noteworthy in Armenia's political and legal landscape in recent years, as it involves not just one but a group of former high-ranking officials whose activities have been the subject of public discussion for years. It is notable that the criminal prosecution simultaneously concerns former presidents, their family members, and business circles, indicating that the case has a much broader scope than could have been initially assumed.

It remains unclear whether this process will lead to new judicial precedents, but the fact is that the Anti-Corruption Committee has become more active, and its actions are no longer limited to a single individual or episode. In the coming weeks, more concrete details regarding the specific charges are likely to emerge, as well as the reactions of the involved parties, each of whom holds significant political and public weight.
