Pashinyan Accuses Kocharyan of Using Children for ‘Show’

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has expressed gratitude to those representatives of the judicial system who presented the facts regarding the Kocharyan case to the public. In a conversation with journalists, he questioned why law enforcement officials had failed to respond to obvious events for decades. According to Pashinyan, prosecutors and investigators must explain why they ignored statements made since 2018.

The Prime Minister sharply criticized the recent actions of Robert Kocharyan's family, questioning the "use" of children. "If you knew they were coming, you should have sent the children to their other grandparents' house instead of keeping them there to stage a show," he emphasized, adding that a process of "weaponizing" children is taking place. According to Pashinyan, former high-ranking officials must live on legal income, and all illicitly acquired assets must be returned to the state. He stressed that if these issues are not resolved, a new revolution will become necessary.

This also concerns former prosecutors and investigators who handled cases involving the Kocharyans. The head of government demanded an audit of their assets and bank accounts, expressing suspicion that they may have received bribes to stall the proceedings.

Remnants of the former power structure still exist in Armenia's judicial system, which, according to the Prime Minister, continue to protect old interests. Under these circumstances, it is becoming clear that the restoration of legality will not be limited to criminal proceedings but will lead to a radical cleansing of the state apparatus. It is important to monitor how law enforcement agencies will be held accountable to the public for their past inaction, as this accountability will become the main test of public trust.
